High Value Datasets are in the spotlight of the European Commission

Under the Digital Europe Programme, the European Commission is supporting a portfolio of projects funded for the use of High-value datasets in the framework of the EU Open Data Directive. BeOpen is included as a key project.  The Regulation set up under the Open Data Directive, defines six categories of datasets:

  1. geospatial
  2. earth observation and environment
  3. meteorological
  4. statistics
  5. companies
  6. mobility

BeOpen is piloting datasets in almost all categories, except statistics and companies. The BeOpen Framework offers a set of tools that allows datasets to be available in machine-readable format, mainly via APIs but, if relevant, as bulk download as well.
