What do High Value Data sets have to do with invasive species in Vilnius ?
BeOpen is driven by the objective to work hands-on on current challenges cities encounter and finding adequate solutions, using high value datasets. One of our use cases is located in Lithuania’s capital, recently elected Green Capital 2025. This award is based on their down-to-earth approach defined as “Vilnius – the greenest city in the making” and aiming towards preserving biodiversity and green spaces amongst others. Biodiversity preservation does not only mean planting new trees it also has to do with protecting indigenous species against the influx of new ones, displacing natives plants.
In BeOpen Vilnius is tackling the issue of invasive species head on, training AI to not only to identify the weed but also to estimate its spreading. Check out our article on the Sosnovksy hogweed and how Vilnius is on course of providing support for European cities facing similar challenges.
